Self-harm

Self-harm can occur once or become a chronic habit that is hard to resist. Finding help is not easy. Our PUREMIND® Self-Harm module helps clients who self-harm understand their problem and why it is unhealthy and dangerous. They learn to acknowledge the emotional pain, anxiety or distress behind their need to self-harm and are shown how to manage and control these underlying issues.

Self-harm: a cry for help

Getting to grips with the underlying causes of self-harm

With our PUREMIND® Self-Harm module

Self-harm can take many forms, but basically involves deliberately hurting or injuring oneself. This can involve cutting, bruising, stabbing, burning, piercing, biting, scalding, or excessively rubbing the skin. It can involve cutting oneself with implements, knocking one’s head on a wall or floor, or engaging in other dangerous activities such as consuming poisons or deliberately overdosing on prescription drugs. Self-harm is typically a physical way to deal with unresolved emotional pain, an attempt to find temporary relief from unbearable thoughts and feelings. All too often more and more pain is required, sometimes leading to thoughts of suicide. Our PUREMIND® Self-Harm module helps people who self-harm get to the bottom of their emotional issues. It shows them that their minds are powerful tools that can overcome anything. They learn that, with encouragement, visualization and reflection, they can resolve underlying emotional issues and release themselves from their past. People completing the module no longer feel the need to self-harm.
